Filming on Gladiator 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2002 film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, finished about a month ago. Expected in theaters around the world next November, the second chapter will also feature The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal in the cast, in a role that is still rather mysterious. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actor had the opportunity to talk about the grandeur of the set and Ridley Scott's working method.

Pedro Pascal and his experience on the set of Gladiator 2

Pedro Pascal was impressed by the grandeur of the set of Gladiator 2, as well as by Ridley Scott's working method. “I have been part of large sets where the identity of the project, in a sense, is its size, and yet I have never been on a set as impressive as that of Gladiator. Ridley Scott leaves little to the imagination in the most old-fashioned sense of the word. All the players and pieces are there on the field that day, and suddenly the challenge of believing yourself to be a powerful person in the era of the Roman Empire vanishes,” the actor said.

Written by David Scarpa, Gladiator 2 will be set about 30 years after the first and features Lucius, son of Lucilla and grandson of Commodus, as the protagonist, saved by Maximus Decimus Meridius at the end of the first chapter. The cast includes Paul Mescal (Lucio Vero), Connie Nielsen (Lucilla), Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, May Calamaway, Derek Jacobi, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas and Tim McInnerny. The film was produced by Ridley Scott together with Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, and David Franzoni.
